What's Your Damage?
Floating Eyes

July 08, 2004

So here I am in the beautiful Northwest. Still getting settled, but coming soon:

Wyoming: The "Blow Me" state
And better still, the tale of the quiet (... or so it would seem ...) hamlet of Echo, Utah, in which the only place one can purchase gasoline for miles around is a creepy abandoned gas station. In order to fuel up, one must go to the cafe about an eighth of a mile down the road, and the owner must spend 15 minutes closing up shop at the diner before he can pump your gas. Did I mention he slowly peddles his antique bicycle from the weird retro cafe to the gas station, as birds of prey circle and cry far above the forgotten valley? And that he does so in his old-time dinerwear? Pictures will be provided, along with this blogger's opinion of what an overly curious city slicker with engine trouble might find should he or she wander into the deep freeze in this forgotten rustic diner ...
